December 2nd Topic: Spinning Technique

Description:

Have you struggled to spin and felt off balance when being lead to spin? As a leader have you wanted to incorporate spinning into your partner/solo dancing? Now the opportunity to do that and more has come! In this 1st workshop, Ricardo will be breaking down the technique of spinning so that the students can feel comfortable spinning. Whether you lead or follow, this class is for you! The students will learn spinning drills that can be practiced at home as well as methods to train your body and strengthen the muscles that support your spinning ability. In the 2nd hour the students will learn basic spinning patterns that are used in salsa. This will immediately and positively impact the student's ability to dance socially!

December 9th Topic: Musicality

Description:

Each student comes to a point where they get curious about what is going on in the music and the musical patterns that instruments play to create the beautiful music we dance to. It is a natural process of thought for those who truly desire to improve their dancing. In this course Ricardo will break down a few of the main instruments in salsa, their patterns, the count structure surrounding these instruments and how the instruments interact. He will also discuss the difference between musician's count and dancer's count and how the dancers can get off beat when salsa music breaks and changes count. THIS CLASS IS A MUST FOR ALL!!! In the first hour we will split our time between listening, discussing and dancing to different rhythms. In the second hour we will learn how to change directions when the musical count changes, learn to dance within the structure of an 8 count (a must know for those who love salsa partnering) and how to begin to understand what it means to "feel the music."

December 16th Topic: Leading & Following Technique

Description:

You walk into a club and see people dancing fluidly and with you could do it as well as they do. There are little tiny secrets that if you knew them, you could do it just as well and better! Ricardo will be sharing these leading and following secrets in the leading and following technique class! In the first hour we will go over exercises that can be used while you are practicing at home, as well as some theory on movement of the body and how a leader's movement signals the follow's movement, direction, angles, etc. This class will change will change your partner skills in a PROFOUND way! In the second hour, we will put into practice the theories learned in the first hour by way of 3-4 common partnerwork movements used in salsa. This class will get you more dances for sure!!
