Want to Dance in the Eugene Celebration Parade??

Josh Remis and Dave Mahoney will lead a cuban-style salsa (casino rueda) group through practicing and then performing in the parade, which occurs Saturday morning, September 13th. Practice starts on July 13th, so apply soon! See below for details, cost, and requirements. It's going to be a blast, so join us!! Send an email to ec@eugenesalsa.com.

We are looking for dancers who are:

  1. Enthusiastic about dancing rueda
This is going to be relaxed and fun. We will do rueda moves we learn in practice, not a choreography. If you get really uptight about dancing, like to criticize others, etc., this probably isn't for you.
  2. At least beginner-intermediate level salsa dancer
You don't have to know casino rueda, but you should be able to do the following:

    • Hear a rhythm in the music and stay on that rhythm.
    • Lead/follow turns while staying on the rhythm.
    • Do a cross-body-lead.
  3. In shape enough to dance the full route of the parade
We'll be dancing the entire parade route without stopping! This will last around an hour, including plenty of time moving in the direction of the parade. It might be hot.
  4. Able to commit to attending practices (tentatively Sundays @ 6:30pm, starting July 13th)
This is initial schedule. We will let you know about updates to this very shortly as we have our group, together.
  5. Willing to chip in $ to cover costs.
The performance group will chip in to cover all costs, which should remain reasonable because there will be many of us. Costs we will split evenly between all of us include the parade entry fee, and sound equipment rental (if we can't find for free). We're guessing this will come to not more than $20 each. We will have color coordinated outfits, but we don't know the cost of those at this point (we are estimating they be around $40 per person). If you have a difficult time paying this, let us know and we can work something out.
